The bone&tissue days in Cape Town 2016 were held 29th and 30th of July in the Lord Nelson Hotel, one of the city’s most famous and iconic hotels. Located on the edge of downtown city in a garden estate overlooked by the Table Mountain, the beautiful hotel in English colonial décor offers a great location for a successful congress that will remain in the memory of the participants.
Small but exquisite – about 30 participants visited one of the two workshops on Friday and listened to the lectures on Saturday. The small number of participants offered the chance for extensive discussion with the speakers and the other colleagues…
The second workshop was held by Dr. Howard Gluckman who maintains a private practice in Cape Town, but is lecturing all around the world. In his workshop Dr. Gluckman introduced the sausage technique, his own approach for bone augmentation and participants had to chance to train the technique including use of pins and suturing on pig jaws. In his lecture on Saturday under the title ‘Bone regeneration: a recipe for success’ he discussed the various option in bone augmentation.
The congress was completed by the lectures of two local speakers. Dr. MT Peck and Dr. Pieter Pooyen presented their clinical cases and discussed their clinical experience with botiss biomaterials. The congress was closed by a lecture of Dr. Christiane Marinc, celebrating ’10 years cerabone’ by presenting well-proven aspects and latest results of the product.
We are looking forward to come back to South Africa for another BTD!
